The first son of George & June DeTitta; George DeTitta Jr. has a long film legacy stretching to the beginning of film. George's father, George DeTitta Sr, also worked as a set decorator, retiring in 2004. Some of George's father's credits include Three Days of the Condor, The Exorcist, State of Grace & Fatal Attraction. George's grandfather, also George, or affectionately known to the family as Pop, entered the film industry in the early 1920's , first as an electrician & then moving into sound when sound became a craft in the late 1920's. His early credits include working with the Marx Brothers & the director, D W Griffith. George's grandfather finished his career as a soundman in the mid 1960's, working on the Julie Andrews movie, Star. George Jr's career started in 1977; before starting to work as a set decorator in 1980. He worked alongside his father George on the Paramount film Ragtime. The film was nominated for multiple Oscars the following year, including one for art direction. George's second Oscar nomination came a few years later for the 1988 film, Radio Days. George also would share in the Emmy for best Production Design awarded to the Mike Nichols show, Angels in America (HBO) in 2004. The Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design in the contemporary field award was awarded in 2015 for the film, Birdman which George decorated. In 2020, the HBO show, Succession, earned George his second Emmy nomination. In 2022, Succession/Season 3, was nominated for Excellence in Production Design for a Contemporary one hour show by the Art Directors Guild. In 2022, George earned his third Prime Time Emmy nomination for the episode "Too Much Birthday" for the HBO show, Succession. In 2023, Succession was once again nominated for Excellence in Production Design for a Creative Emmy for the Season 4 episode of " America Decides" & the Creative Emmy ceremony was postponed until January 2024 due to the writers/actor strike. Succession was awarded numerous Emmy's for their 4th and final season.
